New York Institute of Technology
School of Architecture & Design
Our mission within the School of Architecture and Design is to provide a design- and technology-based 21st-century professional education that enables leadership in the profession and within the community. We’ve identified three core values, or educational aspirations, to guide our approach:
Design Intelligence, which refers to broad-based skills and intellectual rigor you’ll earn by completing a challenging curriculum that emphasizes individual creativity as well as an appreciation of history, culture, and the contributions made by architects to the art and science of building.
Building Technology, which establishes the importance we place on technology within our coursework and approach. This value is manifested in a well-developed, hands-on curriculum in structures, environmental systems, sustainability, and building construction.
Leadership, an attribute of character that we aspire to instill in all of our graduates. This is cultivated in many aspects of their education, including the inclusion of program-wide team projects that demand cohesive interaction and the establishment of clear organizational structures to achieve project goals. Leadership is also developed through the holistic and ethical foundations of your New York Tech educational experience. We actively participate in national and international initiatives where you’ll gain self-confidence by working in collaboration with other institutions and organizations.
Setting
NYIT's School of Architecture and Design offers undergraduate and graduate Architecture, Interior Design and Digital Art and Design degree programs on its two campuses. In New York City, the strategic Columbus Circle location provides rich cultural and professional landscape for integrated architecture, design and technology studies in an urban environment located on Broadway, near Central Park. On Long Island the campus is located in a park-like suburban setting at Old Westbury. The New York City student residence hall is located on Lexington Avenue a short walk from the campus. The Long Island residence hall in Jericho has frequent free shuttle service to and from campus. Both campuses feature open-access computer, fabrication, robotics, material innovation, and artificial intelligence labs, wood shops, plotting, printing and exhibit facilities.
School Philosophy
New York Tech offers degrees in Architecture, Computational Technologies, Digital Arts, Graphic Design, Health and Design, Interior Design, Urban Design and more. The mission within the School of Architecture and Design is to deliver a 21st-century digital design and technology centered education, and to provide a unique professional degree and valuable learning experience that emphasize rigorous academics, critical thinking, advanced technologies, environmental resilience, equitable and diverse community, design innovation and professional leadership.
Design is shaped by innovations, interdisciplinary collaboration, and leaders, equipped with knowledge and experience with which to create culturally transformative, ethically and ecologically sound buildings, environments, communities, and cities. We prepare our students for their future professional careers with a sequence of intensive design studios, alongside courses focusing on the acquisition of knowledge and skills in advanced technologies for design, visualization, computation, fabrication and construction, history, theory, and liberal arts.
Our programs emphasize the exploration of creative design solutions in an intimate, ambitious, and nurturing environment. We aim to create globally engaged, responsible, civic environmentally sensitive, professionally accredited designers, with intellectual and artistic sensibility, technical proficiency. All School of Architecture and Design degrees have STEM designation, providing extended OPT visa eligibility for international students.
